We bought this car in March in Iquique and are now in Peru, this is why we'd prefer selling in e.g. Iquique, which is a good start to see all of Chile`s beauty and diversity. It is only a short, cheap flight (or a bus day-ride) away from Santiago. Airport shuttle in your new car-to-be included. :)

If you're looking for space and comfort, a very practically organized and charming interior that makes you feel at home and a rolling harbor that gives you independence for several days - this is it. For our part, we love travelling with our KIA, got accustomed fast to this way of getting around and don't miss a thing.

Interior & Features

KIA Besta (used in Santiago as school bus) offers a lot of space and a good view and a lot of daylight with its many windows. It's perfectly equipped for camping and exploring the continent on your own:

  • additional storage is located underneath the bed

The equipment is mostly shown in the pictures provided and offers almost everything needed to travel with maximum freedom. Feel free to ask for details.

The car also comes with lift and spare wheel and some car equipment like sun protection panel for the front window and smartphone-holder.

Technical Overview

KIA will be at around 500’000 km at the time of sale. However: The core of this car, the engine, is in a good condition. It was treated with very regular oil changes and has never let us down (nor any of the other owners). Unlike some turbo-charged models, this engine is feasible of making up to a million kilometers and doesn’t seem even remotely close to the end of its life. A plus of the high mileage: You know it’s not faked (as many cars are in these parts). The engine has a new head gasket and was overhauled recently, all parts of it are in very good shape.

The rear (drum) brakes were replaced by the first owners, the second owners replaced the front (disc) brakes. The front wheels got new bearings and upper suspension in December. The gears and transmission work fine and got regular oil changes. The complete lower structure of the car is in very good shape, there is hardly any rust.

The car is equipped with still almost new General Grabber AT2 tyres with a good profile and is driven via its rear wheels. This makes KIA suitable for almost all terrain. We've crossed riverbeds and climbed steep gravel roads. (We never told her that she actually is not a 4x4 ;)

The diesel consumption depends strongly on the way of travelling and the quality of the roads but is generally very low for a vehicle of this size. With a large share of highways and paved roads, it can be as low as 8 liters for 100 km (around 30 miles per gallon). With bad roads, consumption rises to around 9 or 10 liters per 100 km.

Flaws

  • The high mileage is most visible on the outside of the car: there are some bumps and scratches.
  • The rear axle suspension is welded at two locations (origin unknown). This however has proven not to be a problem, this KIA has been taking every bump for the last 25'000 km.
  • The rubber parts show some signs of use but were treated with silicon.
  • Somebody sat on the seats for the distance equivalent of approximately ten times around the globe: this can be seen. We cleaned them thoroughly, bought seat protectors and can tell you that comfort is still ensured.
  • The rear lights have some cracks in the plastic but that has never been a problem.
  • The rear wiper does not work, but we never considered it an issue.

History

This car was bought in Santiago by a couple from the Netherlands and France and was transformed into a rolling home – “una casita rodante” - around early 2017. Since then, this KIA toured around South America. The second owners, a Swiss couple bought, improved and loved it from November last year to this March, when we (a German couple) were lucky to get it.

KIA was almost perfect, but we added a solar panel and an additional new board-battery - to be even more independent – and improved the electrical system and lighting. We also changed some of the interior furniture to add some personality.

This is your chance to become the next in line looking for an independent and individual journey!

Be reminded that any foreigner who wants to legally buy a car in Chile needs to obtain a so-called RUT (tax registration number) first. We can tell you about this process and help you if you have questions. It's not a big deal.

Now if you’d like to travel South America or just Chile, which probably offers ‘travel material’ for several months already and if you're looking for a practical car with easily transformed bed (it takes one second - other cars need to be laid with planks and mattresses...), a lot of well-organized storage, lots of independence in terms of terrain, food, water and electricity and a good vibe, you might be the perfect future inhabitant of our KIA!
With this car you can see the most beautiful places of the continent, evade tourist hotspots, save money otherwise spent for hostels, comfortably cook your own meals, spend your nights wherever you like and enjoy sunsets, volcanoes, beaches, mountains, rivers and more - like we do!

KIA is the perfect and fully equipped camper – and that for a price you won`t find elsewhere.

Don’t hesitate to ask any questions or remind us of things we forgot to write about.

We’re looking forward to hearing from you
